Myth six - its all to do with the Sun, just like that Channel 4 documentary said

SunsetA film called "The Great Global Warming Swindle" was shown on Channel 4 in March 2007.  The film suggested that climate change is really caused by changes in the way that the Sun behaves, rather than human activity.

A little bit of this is true, because the Sun does have an effect on our climate, but people are doing things like burning fossil fuels which has disrupted natural cycles of global warming and cooling.

Some important scientists have complained that the film was misleading.  One scientist who was in the film later said that some of the information in the film was false.

Many climate change experts have written to OFCOM (the authority that looks after UK television and radio broadcasts) to complain about the film.  These scientists include Sir John Houghton, the former boss of the Meterological Office; Lord May of Oxford, a former government chief scientist and Professor Chris Rapley, Director of the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge.
