Businesses on the Medway City Estate are being encouraged to recycle their commercial waste, through the introduction of a free paper and cardboard recycling bank.
The bank has been installed by a partnership made up of Medway Council, ReMaDe kent and Medway, the Federation of Small Businesses and Viridor Waste Management and will be available on the site until January 2008 as part of a business recycling trial.
Any business based on the estate can use the bank to recycle paper, newspaper, cardboard and envelopes. By recycling waste, instead of disposing of it in landfill, we can avoid emissions of methane - a powerful greenhouse gas that is produced by rotting waste.
Carbon savings from the scheme will be calculated and the aim is to expand the trial to other areas on the estate and possibly to other industrial sites across Medway.
