Rochester Riverside regeneration

Rochester Riverside aerial photoA 'Green Charter' has been issued for the flagship Thames Gateway regeneration site Rochester Riverside - requiring future developers to meet strict new standards for energy-efficiency and water-use. The charter guarantees that everything built on this prime waterfront site will improve upon the latest Government regulations on 'sustainable design'.

Issued by Medway Council and project partner SEEDA (the South East England Development Agency), the document sets out criteria that must be met by the 2,000 new homes, hotels, offices, shops, cafes, bars, schools and community buildings proposed for the 34-hectare site. Developers will have to satisfy a checklist of minimum requirements covering water, carbon, building materials, recycling, timber sources, renewable energy and waste management.
