The important thing here is the difference between weather and climate.
Weather can be described as what's happening in one place like a town at a particular time - whether a day is hot, cold, sunny, rainy or windy.
Climate is what happens over a longer time over a bigger area like a country or continent.
So weather is what we get and climate is what we expect in a particular part of the world. Weather forecasting is difficult because it is short-term, but climate prediction can be more accurate because we have more experience of what an area has been like in the past.
For example, we would find it difficult to say whether it will be freezing in Gillingham on 19th December, but we know that December in south-east England is generally cold. In the same way we know that North Africa is dry and Florida is hot.
Myth five - even scientists can't agree about the causes of climate change
